Independent Board Director & Crisis-Tested C-Suite Advisor
What’s one thing you’re learning right now — professionally or personally?
Advanced Geothermal Systems.
In your view, what makes a truly effective board member?
I have spent over 30 years navigating the full lifecycle of complex organizations – from launching startups and working in the C-suite of billion-dollar companies, to managing rapid growth, working through private equity acquisition and guiding distressed companies through Chapter 11 reorganization. I am a battle-tested leader who has experienced the “hero to zero rollercoaster” of the business world, and developed a pragmatic, crisis-proof perspective on corporate financial structure, governance, growth strategy, and business development.
Beach, mountains, city, or countryside — what’s your ideal getaway?
Countryside.
What’s a small daily habit that makes a big difference for you?
Hot water with lemon first thing every morning.
What’s a book every board member should read?
Boards That Lead: When to Take Charge, When to Partner, and When to Stay Out of the Way by Ram Charan, Dennis Carey, and Michael Useem.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
If you always tell the truth, you will not have to remember everything you say.
In your experience, what differentiates great board chairs?
A great board chair operates as an elite facilitator rather than a dominant decision-maker, focusing their energy on running a high-performing board instead of trying to co-manage the company. Most importantly, they structure agendas to look forward at future strategy and risks, ensuring the board acts as a strategic asset rather than just a compliance committee strictly reviewing past performance.
If you had an extra free hour every day, how would you spend it?
Networking.
What’s the most unforgettable trip or experience you’ve ever had?
Alaska.
