Dr. Brian O. Hemphill is the ninth president of Old Dominion University, a top-tier doctoral institution with very high research activity. Under his leadership, Old Dominion University has advanced a bold digital transformation strategy that modernizes academic delivery, integrates artificial intelligence across teaching and research, and expands high-impact academic pathways aligned with workforce needs. This includes launching MonarchSphere, a first-of-its-kind artificial intelligence incubator in partnership with Google Cloud, connecting students, faculty, and industry.

Throughout Hemphill’s career, he has focused on executive governance, holding key leadership positions on corporate, financial, and scientific boards, such as the John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE: WLY) , a global leader in publishing and research; the Preston Hollow Community Capital , overseeing community investment initiatives; and the Jefferson Science Associates , managing the US Department of Energy’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.
