Veronica Hinojosa Segura is a corporate Board Director and a senior finance executive with over 30 years of experience in Fortune 500 companies, state government entities, nonprofit health care, and higher education. Veronica’s diverse career demonstrates a solid track record in leading change management, digital transformational, and strategic operations in highly regulated and complex public business environments. Her corporate committees involve audit, compliance and finance, and nominating and governance. She brings a strong servant-leadership style through her key leadership roles in various community non-profit boards.
Currently, Hinojosa Segura is the Associate Vice Chancellor and Controller for one of the largest university systems in the nation, the University of Texas System. Under her leadership, Hinojosa Segura has executive oversight and financial reporting responsibilities for 13 health and academic institutions with a consolidated net position of $65 billion, an investment portfolio of $75 billion, and an operating budget of $25 billion. In her short tenure, Hinojosa Segura has been recognized for implementing innovative digital-transformation corporate best practices within an academic business environment. She re-engineered her organizational structure by creating centers of excellence that reduced cycle times, generated timely financial reporting, and implemented innovative solutions. She is also responsible for a $25 billion supply chain, contracts, and procurement organization.
Veronica was the President and CEO of a faith-based community health clinic that was a member of the $17 billion nonprofit hospital network, Ascension Health. The community health center had a varied payor mix and provided uncompensated care to underserved populations with dental, medical, early childhood development, behavioral health, and wellness services. Under her tenure, the childhood center received $12 million in federal funding to launch the first-ever Head Start program, doubled its philanthropic footprint, and identified several options to convert the health clinic into a federally qualified health center (FQHC). As COO within the hospital system, she was responsible for business development of more than $175 million.
Veronica began her career in state government as a portfolio manager of a $7 billion municipal bond portfolio. She was quickly promoted and recognized within the business community as a subject matter expert in treasury and financial management. This led Veronica to a Global Treasury position with Dell Computer where she implemented a nationally acclaimed international digital treasury platform and led the team that created global shared service centers. While maintaining her finance and treasury roles, she was selected to be the executive leader for all corporate-wide diversity-and-inclusion employee resource groups.
Veronica is an active leader of several nonprofit boards and is the 2021 past chair for the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. In addition, she serves on Health Care Service Corp. (HCSC) board, is an executive member of the Latino Corporate Directors Association, and is affiliated with several professional and industry associations. Hinojosa Segura was named to the Diversity 100, a national listing of board-ready candidates. She is passionate about mentoring and being a role model to aspiring Latina leaders.
