Ruth Shaw

Director, SPX Technologies 

Ruth G. Shaw is an accomplished corporate director and former Fortune 500 utility executive with extensive experience in board governance, executive compensation, enterprise risk oversight, sustainability, and strategic transformation.  

Following a distinguished executive career at Duke Energy, where she served as President and CEO of Duke Power Company, President of Duke Nuclear, and Group Executive for Public Policy, Shaw has become a highly respected board leader. She has served as Lead Independent Director of DTE Energy, Chair of the Governance and Sustainability Committee at SPX Technologies, and as a director for Avado Brands, Dow Inc. (formerly Dow Chemical), J.A. Jones, MedCath, Southwire and Wachovia Corporation, where she chaired the Management Resources and Compensation Committee.  

Beyond her corporate board service, Shaw has been a prodigious fundraiser and civic leader.  She provided leadership to numerous education and nonprofit organizations, including serving as Chair of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Board of Trustees and Foundation, the United Way of Central Carolinas, the Arts & Science Council, the Foundation for the Carolinas, Davidson College, and as founding governing board chair of the Carolina Thread Trail.  

A magna cum laude graduate of East Carolina University,  Shaw earned a bachelor’s, and master’s degree in English before completing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.  She brings decades of executive leadership, governance experience, and public policy expertise to corporate and nonprofit boards.
