Dr. Alan Turovlin
Associate Professor at UNCC
Dr. Turovlin is a seasoned executive, board member, and academic with more than four decades of experience navigating complex technology, finance, and operations. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Charlotte, providing a “pracademically” grounded perspective to modern business issues.
His extensive practitioner background includes serving as a Partner for KPMG Consulting and as the Chief Information Officer for Icahn Enterprises, where he directed IT and back-office operations for Icahn’s $25 billion portfolio. Additionally, as the Chief Transformation Officer for Canon Europe, he led a €750 million business transformation to transition the $15 billion enterprise into a service-oriented business.
More recently, Dr. Turovlin, specialized in leading turnarounds for distressed, private equity-owned portfolio companies in the logistics, healthcare, entertainment, and manufacturing sectors. Additionally, he serves on the board of a not-for-profit hospital in New Jersey. This work has established his deep expertise in managing high-stakes organizational transitions and complex supply chain disruptions. Dr. Turovlin’s scholarly research and publications are focused on (a) the business value of IT, (b) the prioritization of cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and (c) the development of trust in agentic artificial intelligence (AI).
Dr. Turovlin earned his Doctor of Business Administration from UNC at Charlotte. He also holds a Master of Science in Accounting and a Master of Public Administration in Public Financial Management from American University in Washington, D.C., as well as a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Virginia Tech. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in both Maryland and North Carolina.
