Adam L. Barbina
Senior Director, EY Geostrategic Business Group
Adam L. Barbina is a senior director with EY’s Geostrategic Business Group, where he leads US geostrategy efforts and focuses on global geostrategy analysis and political risk insight. He has more than 18 years of advisory experience spanning commercial, financial, and political risk consulting to help business leaders assess and execute complex strategy and operational matters. Barbina has worked with and convened board of directors, executives, and management teams to understand, interpret, and then advise on responses to an increasingly volatile and challenging geopolitical environment.
In his prior roles, Barbina provided global mergers and acquisitions and commercial advice across the United States, Europe, and Asia within multiple sectors and market research projects including for industrial products, consumer, and technology clients. He also served as a global development leader within EY’s London headquarters, where he led global growth initiatives including acquiring and building a strategy consulting practice and spearheading the development and launch of a new global reporting framework.
Barbina’s experience includes developing and assessing geopolitical scenarios across the US–China and China–Taiwan situations to support the strategic planning for industrials clients; delivering a geostrategic insight document for a Fortune 500 global chemical strategy leader focused on US–China industrial policy and tech concerns, Indo-Pacific diversification, and trade concerns; and leading the geopolitical-regulatory assessment for a global pharmaceutical firm’s multi-billion-dollar China investment strategy. In addition, he has advised a global industrials client on integrating political risk into its enterprise risk management program, including insights on monitoring indicators; supported a multi-national industrials conglomerate to assess the geopolitical and political risks relating to their future Asia-Pacific headquarters selection; and led geopolitical assessments for multiple contemplated strategic sector (e.g., pharma, electric vehicles) investments in China, Latin America, and the US.
Barbina earned his bachelor of science in business administration, with a political science minor, from The Ohio State University. He also earned his global master of arts in international affairs from The Fletcher School, the graduate school of global affairs at Tufts University.
