Vice Chair

Carol K. Nelson is a banking executive, financial expert, and experienced corporate governance professional. She serves as vice chair of the board of Delta Dental of Washington. She also serves as an independent director and technology committee vice chair for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (Iowa). Nelson is chair of the Washington State Major League Baseball Stadium Public Facilities District board (home of the Seattle Mariners). She holds NACD Directorship Certification® and the CERT Certificate in Cyber-Risk Oversight.

Previously, Nelson served as a strategic advisor and director to financial-technology (FinTech) startup Monzo Inc. (parent company Monzo Bank is the United Kingdom’s fastest growing digital bank with over 7 million customers) and as US CEO from 2019 to 2022, establishing its US headquarters. She was named among the Top 100 Women in FinTech by FinTech Magazine in 2021.

Prior to joining Monzo, Nelson was a top executive for KeyBank, also serving as a member of KeyBank’s executive council and as a director and trustee for the KeyBank Foundation. During her tenure, American Banker Magazine named her to their Most Powerful Women in Banking Top Team.

In addition to her corporate experience, Nelson is an active community leader. She serves on the board of advisors for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Nelson is a past chair of the board of directors for United Way of King County and served her alma mater, Seattle University, as a board member and audit committee chair, receiving its distinguished alumni professional achievement award.
