James (“Jamie”) Herbert is a proven executive and board member with over 25 years of experience driving growth, turnarounds, and strategic change for public and private companies. His career spans CFO, CHRO, and IT and Operational leadership roles, integrating finance, talent, governance, and technology to create value.

As Chief Human Resources Officer and Senior Information Technology Officer at Green Plains Inc. (NASDAQ: GPRE), Jamie serves as a Section 16 officer and partner to the CEO and Board on executive compensation, succession, cyber governance, cultural evolution, and organizational design. In 2025, he assumed an expanded role during a CEO transition, reporting directly to the Board and guiding strategic continuity.

Previously, Jamie led finance and operations at Capstone IT, shaping enterprise strategy and capital planning for a founder-led firm. Earlier, he spent nearly two decades at Union Pacific (NYSE: UNP) in progressive executive roles across finance, HR, operations, IT, and corporate strategy within one of America’s most complex industrial environments. His career began in retail operations at Pamida Inc..
Jamie chairs the Board of Fluid Quip Technologies, advises Vision2Voice Healthcare Communications, and is a NACD Certified Director. His prior board service includes the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Nebraska, Jesuit Academy, Stephens Center, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Veterans Employer Council.

He holds an MS in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution from Creighton University School of Law, an MBA from the University of Nebraska, and a BSBA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, complemented by executive education at Harvard, Stanford, Chicago Booth, and UNC Kenan-Flagler.
