Heather Humphrey

Heather Humphrey leads the legal and compliance divisions of Evergy, formerly known as Great Plains Energy and Westar Energy. Ms. Humphrey is responsible for all litigation, regulatory, and corporate legal matters, as well as compliance, environmental, and audit functions.
Before joining Evergy, Ms. Humphrey was an equity partner with Shughart Thomson & Kilroy in Kansas City, Missouri, where her practice focused primarily on business and employment litigation. While in private practice, she spent several years as hiring partner and served on the firm’s Strategic Planning Committee. Prior to joining the law firm, she was a law clerk for the Honorable W. Duane Benton of the Missouri Supreme Court.
Ms. Humphrey serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the Asset Management Committee of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Board of Trustees. She previously served on the Mayor’s Human Resources Task Force and as a chair for the Kansas City Summer Employment Commission, as well as on the boards of Starlight Theatre, Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired, The Nelson-Atkins Business Council, and Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey.
Ms. Humphrey earned a business degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, her law degree from Washington University School of Law, and an MBA from the Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is also a graduate of Dartmouth University’s Tuck Executive Program.
