Corporate Diplomacy: Navigating Relations with Policymakers, Regulators, and Investors
In a period marked by political and policy volatility, regulatory change, and rising investor scrutiny, corporate diplomacy has become a core board responsibility. Directors must oversee not only government engagement strategies, but also the governance frameworks that ensure credibility with regulators, institutional investors, and increasingly assertive shareholders.
This session brings together perspectives from federal policy advocacy, corporate governance advisory, and public company board leadership to examine how boards can:
- Anticipate and respond to legislative and regulatory developments that materially affect enterprise value
- Oversee management’s approach to government relations, trade associations, and policy advocacy
- Align governance structures, disclosures, and board processes with evolving regulatory and investor expectations
- Navigate shareholder activism and campaigns in a polarized environment
- Balance long-term strategy with short-term regulatory, and market pressures
Through practical examples, panelists will explore where oversight ends and management execution begins, how boards can avoid reputational missteps in policy engagement, and what “good” looks like when engaging policymakers, regulators, institutional investors, and activists.
