Global Climate Governance Principles
The Climate Governance Initiative builds on initial work by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and their set of climate governance principles.
Boards are beginning to grapple with climate change and are finding it to be a complex issue, fraught with scientific, macroeconomic, and policy uncertainties. Many boards struggle to frame climate risks and opportunities appropriately within their organization’s overall strategy. To combat these challenges, the WEF developed a set of eight principles to:
enable directors to gain climate awareness and skills,
embed climate considerations into board decision-making,
and encourage directors to understand and act upon the risks and opportunities that the climate emergency poses to their organizations.
Visit NACD’s Applying Climate Governance Principles to learn more about the WEF principles and how to apply the guidance in American boardrooms.
