Renu Agrawal is a seasoned executive and director with more than 25 years of experience working for growing companies and transforming business models. She is on the board of Woodruff Sawyer, one of the largest privately held insurance brokerages in the United States. She also chairs its audit and risk committee and is a member of its compensation committee. She is on the board of Sunrise Produce, a private equity–owned wholesale produce distributor, and is on the advisory board of Nishith Desai and Associates, an India-based global law firm.
Renu recently served on the board, the audit and risk committee, and the nominating and governance committee of Luther Burbank Corp. (Nasdaq: LBC), which was acquired by Washington Federal Bank in early 2024. She was on the board of Allvue Systems, a Vista Equity–owned software-as-a-service company.
She has a breadth of global experience across small and large companies. Having run profit and loss and having been a chief operating officer (COO) in multiple industries, Renu brings insight into what it takes to be innovative, create strategy, execute plans, and manage leadership teams in driving growth. This, combined with her governance experience serving on the boards of a public bank and multiple private equity–owned and employee-owned companies, has helped her become a highly effective board director and partner.
From 2006 to 2019, Renu served at Wells Fargo, where her last role was executive vice president and COO for the financial institutions group, a $3 billion global business providing complete banking services to other banks, insurers, and asset managers. She worked with the board of Wells Fargo Bank International and the international risk committee of the board of Wells Fargo Bank as she directed the effort to make the international footprint of the business compliant with evolving regulations. Previously, Renu oversaw Wells Fargo’s international treasury management business, where she doubled sales revenue in five years by upgrading sales talent, deploying sales analytics, and implementing a customer-centric approach. Renu started her Wells Fargo career leading strategic initiatives. She played a leadership role in overseeing the Wells Fargo–Wachovia merger, including delivering $5 billion in savings and reporting regularly to the board, the Federal Reserve, and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
Prior to Wells Fargo, Renu was the COO at ValleyCrest Companies, an 8,000-empoyee commercial landscape services company, where she contributed to doubling revenue to $800 million and quadrupling EBITDA, leading to a successful transition to private equity ownership. As COO, she also grew revenue at a venture capital–backed educational technology company from $2 million to $12 million. At McKinsey, Renu drove bottom-line impact for large health-care and financial-services clients.
She is a founding member of Neythri, which supports South Asian professional women, and a member of Indiaspora. She received the 2018 National Asian Pacific American Corporate Achievement Award, which recognizes professional excellence, leadership in the community, and a commitment to a culture of corporate diversity.
Renu holds a master of business administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management and a doctor of philosophy in materials science and engineering from MIT. She graduated with a bachelor of technology in metallurgy from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
