Michael Montelongo

Joining the NACD Board of Directors in July of 2023, the Honorable Michael Montelongo is a seasoned board governance and audit committee financial expert with an extensive record of public, private, and nonprofit sector leadership. A former presidential appointee and Senate-confirmed official, he serves on the boards of Civeo Corporation (NYSE: CVEO), the privately held Monarca, and the NACD, where he is also a Board Leadership Fellow and faculty member.
As president and CEO of GRC Advisory Services, LLC, Mr. Montelongo advises boards and senior leaders on governance, risk, and compliance. He was most recently on the faculty at Harvard Business School, where he is now an Executive Fellow and formerly held senior executive roles at Sodexo, Inc., including Chief Administrative Officer, Senior Vice President for Public Policy and Corporate Affairs, and Chief Strategy Officer.
His earlier service includes an appointment as the 19th Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller, where he managed a $120B budget during two wartime operations as the Chief Financial Officer and later served as Acting Secretary of the Air Force. He contributed to U.S. space and defense strategy through roles on the NASA Advisory Council and the board of The Aerospace Corporation. Before joining the Bush administration, Mr. Montelongo was an executive with a global management consulting firm and a regional telecommunications company.
Mr. Montelongo began his career as a U.S. Army officer, holding line and staff roles, completing a Congressional Fellowship, and teaching at West Point. A national security, geopolitics, and public policy expert, he is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Born and raised in New York City’s Lower East Side, he was the first in his extended family to attend college, earning a B.S. from West Point and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He is active in civic organizations supporting youth, veterans, health, and national service. His recognitions include top civilian honors from the Air Force and NASA and the Latino Leaders Magazine Maestro Award for Leadership.
