Adalio Sanchez is an information technology (IT) industry veteran with a successful 25-year track record of operating, transforming, and profitably growing many complex multibillion-dollar global businesses. Mr. Sanchez has a deep background in strategy, research and development, product management, supply chain, and mergers and acquisitions. He has broad expertise in enterprise software, hardware, and semiconductor markets, including the key technology areas of systems, cloud, cyber, and artificial intelligence (AI). He has extensive governance skills and is a National Association of Corporate Directors Board Leadership Fellow.
Mr. Sanchez is president of S Group Advisory LLC, a management consulting firm providing clients and technology start-ups advisory services on business strategy, technology, and operational excellence. He is also a corporate governance leader and serves as chair of the board of ACI Worldwide Inc. (Nasdaq: ACIW), a global software company facilitating real-time digital payments, and sits on the boards of Avnet Inc. (Nasdaq: AVT), a global semiconductor components and technology solutions distribution company, and ASM International (Euronext Stock Exchange: ASM), a Dutch semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment company. He is also a trustee of the MITRE Corp., a nonprofit firm that operates advanced research and development centers for the US federal government, where he chairs the science and technology committee. Mr. Sanchez previously served on the board of Snap One Holdings (Nasdaq: SNPO), a connected home technology solutions and distribution company, and served as interim CEO and board director of Quantum Corp. (Nasdaq: QMCO), an IT storage solutions company.
Mr. Sanchez was formerly senior vice president and corporate officer at Lenovo Group Limited, where he was responsible for Lenovo’s $5 billion enterprise systems, storage, and data center technologies business, including product development, marketing, sales, operations, and overall financial performance.
Prior to joining Lenovo, Mr. Sanchez spent 32 years at IBM Corp. in various senior executive officer and global general management roles. He was a member of IBM’s performance team, the select group of the company’s highest-ranking senior executives. In that last role, he operated two IBM divisions with combined annual revenues of $6 billion. During his tenure, he transformed the businesses operationally and culturally to profitability and led their subsequent divestitures.
In earlier roles, Mr. Sanchez was vice president of IBM Corporate Strategy and prior to that general manager of IBM’s microelectronics division where he oversaw the operational and financial performance of the company’s semiconductor business. He was also general manager of IBM’s UNIX systems division and had responsibility for all hardware design including microprocessors, server hardware, the AIX operating system, and software applications. Over a four-year period, he turned the business around and drove significant growth that resulted in IBM becoming the global market share leader in enterprise systems.
Other prior IBM positions included: general manager/chief operating officer for the IBM Personal Systems Group, where he managed all personal computer supply chain and IT operations globally; general manager of IBM’s ThinkPad Notebook division where he led product development, sales to commercial and retail channels, marketing, and was accountable for the global profits and losses; and vice president of ThinkPad development. In that role, he pioneered and spearheaded the formation of the Bluetooth industry consortium that ultimately made today’s popular communication link ubiquitous.
Mr. Sanchez began his IBM career in 1982 as a hard disk development engineer on the company’s second personal computer system at its Boca Raton, FL, site.
Mr. Sanchez holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Miami, and a master of business administration from Florida International University. He was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 2023 and was named US Hispanic Engineer of the Year in 2007. He is listed among the top Hispanics in technology and business and is chair of the Florida International University Foundation.
