Chantal Veevaete, NACD.DC
Houston Membership Co-Chair
Chantal Veevaete is an experienced independent board member and C-suite executive in energy, oil and gas, education, petrochemical, healthcare and specialty pharma enterprises across Europe and the United States. Her career experience - marked by a specific talent for anticipating businesses' strategic needs, delivering impactful strategy plans, and supporting teams in strategy execution-makes her an invaluable asset to any board seeking a director or advisor with diverse expertise and the ability to enhance shareholder value, while delivering a people-centric approach by elevating human capital potential, developing leadership capabilities and high-performing teams, and engaging talent at all levels of the organization.
As a non-executive board director and compensation committee chair at Continental Building Products (a wholesale provider of building materials), Veevaete provided strategic direction and held management accountable for its growth strategy, succession planning, and leadership development; refined its compensation philosophy with the intention of overachieving its strategic goals; and built long-term shareholder value until the company was acquired by Compagnie de Saint-Gobain S.A. in a transaction valued at approximately $1.4 billion (a price representing a 34.4 percent premium). At Phillips 66 Co., she played a key role in the launch of a Fortune 10, New York Stock Exchange-listed energy manufacturing and logistics corporation, post spin-off from ConocoPhillips, leading the design and execution of a comprehensive human-capital strategy and delivering a sustainable leadership bench during a transformative period in the company and energy industry. As chief human resources officer (CHRO) of Accredo Health Group, she managed the integration of multiple acquisitions while enabling the company’s exponential organic growth. After having formed a strategic alliance with Medco Health Solutions, Accredo Health became a wholly owned division of Medco. There, Veevaete oversaw the integration of human-capital policies, processes, and systems and led the enterprise’s employee communication strategy, keeping organizational and culture transformation top of mind to engage and retain high-performing talent.
As a former Fortune 10, 100, and 1000 CHRO, Veevaete has consistently demonstrated her ability to achieve and sustain superior shareholder value across diverse industries. She has done this through fit-for-purpose human-capital management in organizations with employee headcounts ranging from +/-500 to +/-14,000 employees. She is a dedicated professional with a passion for building business partnerships and maximizing employee potential at all organizational levels. She has a particular ability to drive human capital and culture transformation in the context of mergers and acquisitions initiatives (specifically merging and integrating or separating and forming independent public enterprises), bringing stakeholders together to work toward a common purpose-one with a coherent set of values-to achieve successful transitions and deliver value-added results. Veevaete has led succession-planning strategies throughout her human resources career, cultivating and refining leadership teams’ skills and strengthening executive talent readiness to take on future C-level roles.
Veevaete excels in nurturing and engaging talent, developing a deep leadership bench, and fostering a principle-led, customer-centric, collaborative, and engaging work culture. Her advisory style is characterized by traits like approachability, authenticity, and a transformative, mission-driven philosophy. She is an expert in strategic and critical thinking and known for setting clear goals and achieving positive results. Most importantly, she does this through a strong ability to scout and onboard top-quality talent and build high-performing teams. One of her standout traits is being a life-long learner with an ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of corporate governance. As an NACD member, she earned the association’s prestigious NACD.DC Directorship Certification credentials and has completed GUBERNA’s, the Belgian Institute for Directors, renowned Director Effectiveness course. She is currently on the NACD Texas TriCities Chapter Board where she serves as Houston Member Co-Chair.
She is a dual citizen of Belgium and the United States and a native French speaker who is multicultural at heart and has a global mindset when it comes to business leadership and pursuing interests outside of work.
