Rick Timmins

Rick Timmins has been a resident of Austin, Texas, on three separate occasions since 1975 and is heavily involved in the Austin start-up community. He is a member of Central Texas Angel, where he is the chairman of the board, and he has personally invested in over 20 Austin start-up companies. Timmins brings with him 35 years of experience in financial management and strategic guidance from two Fortune 100 technology leaders. Most recently, he served as vice president and corporate controller of finance at networking technology leader Cisco Systems. There he was instrumental in developing and implementing an e-culture of financial reporting across all of Cisco’s worldwide operations. When he arrived in 1996, Cisco took two weeks to close its quarterly books. Under his leadership, the task was reduced to four hours.
Prior to Cisco, Timmins served as vice president of finance for Motorola, where he had worldwide financial responsibility for the Semiconductor division. He also was the vice president of Finance for Motorola Japan and lived in Tokyo for six years, developing Motorola’s cellular operations in Japan, which experienced explosive growth from $300 million to over $2 billion. In addition to his operational experience, he has worked with numerous top-tier venture firms from across the country.
Timmins is also a former board member in four public companies, five privately held companies, and four nonprofit organizations. He holds a BS in Accounting and Finance from the University of Arizona and an MBA from St. Edward’s University, and he was previously a Certified Public Accountant.
