Avril Ussery Sisk, NACD.DC, most recently has served on the board of a privately held information technology company where she supported strategic public-private partnerships and the government relations strategy to drive significant revenue and ultimately a transaction. With a particular interest in artificial intelligence (AI) governance, Sisk regularly speaks and writes on this expansive subject. She continues to explore the implications of AI regulations on business, particularly regarding directors’ oversight and strategic responsibilities.

She is the immediate past chair of the Arlington County, Virginia, Economic Development Commission and. as vice-chair, led the commission’s workforce taskforce, a collaborative initiative to address workforce development, business recruitment and realignment, and other economic development concerns.
Sisk also spearheaded Arlington County’s Framework for Prosperity 2.0-Equity Update, providing a strategic framework for the county board’s equity resolution with emphasis on economic development. During her tenure, the National Landing area of Arlington County became the first “smart city” in the United States through a public-private collaboration establishing new 5G digital infrastructure, drawing more technology companies to the area.

A frequent speaker and panelist on these and related issues, Sisk is a certified Leadership Professional in Ethics and Compliance through the Ethics and Compliance Initiative. A former North Carolina state court judge and ethics counsel at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, she is a graduate of Berkeley Law at the University of California, Berkeley and of the University of California, Los Angeles.
