Shane Sanders

Shane Sanders is a retired transformational and strategic Finance Executive who has led large initiatives enterprise wide, focused on influencing value creation. He is an independent public board director for Danaher Corporation, Commvault Systems Inc and serves on the Audit & Nominating and Governance Committees, as well as the Audit Committee Chair for Commvault.  He drives change through financial expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills to realize a future vision that stays ahead of market dynamics. Shane employs a leadership style that is inspiring to others that attracts, retains, and develops highly talented and engaged individuals.

He has been an advisor to the Board as chief auditor reviewing the annual enterprise risk management plan, a member of the company’s disclosure committee, and ensuring GAAP, NYSE, SEC, SOX and International country rules and regulations compliance.

He joined Verizon Communications in 2000, one of the largest communications and technology companies in the world.  Most recently, he has served as Senior Vice President, Business Excellence (Transformation), leading a four-year transformation program with a $10B commitment, which achieved its goal one year ahead of target.  He also served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Finance, managing large teams through a broad portfolio of initiativea, including establishing an enterprise financial center of excellence. He has advised and supported the Chairman and CEO, Chief Financial Officer, executive leaders and board members on various matters including shareholder value creation, target setting, capital allocation, and enterprise risk management and compliance.

As Senior Vice President Internal Audit & Chief Audit Executive, he developed the initial Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Process and Practices to identify and deploy mitigation strategies for risks. Shane also was instrumental in reestablishing the company-wide Verizon Enterprise Security Council (VESC) that focused the organization on cybersecurity and IT security risk. His team also expanded the data analytics program within the audit process to drive efficiency and identify potential risk areas. He was an early industry- wide pioneer in the use of analytics in decision analysis and risk management.

At Verizon Wireless, Shane advised and executed on various strategic, operational, and financial decisions including the Alltel merger ($27B), SEC disclosure, accounting, compliance, operational initiatives, and integration of newly acquired markets totaling $2.0B. He also led the integration of the messaging business unit into Verizon Wireless with cost savings in excess of $50M. His initiative provided governance in current and emerging areas of risk (legal, network, HR, etc.) as a member of Compliance & Privacy Council. Shane has evaluated risk mitigation practices across markets, vendors, and employees.

Shane serves on the Council for Economic Education Board and the board of Trustees for Oklahoma City University. He previously served on the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation board (2015 – 2018). Additionally, he is an active member of the Executive Leadership Council and was selected by Diversity MBA Magazine as a Top 100 under 50 Executive Leader. He earned a Master of Business Administration from Rockhurst University and a B.S.B in Accounting from Oklahoma City University.
