Christopher Hetner

Director

Chris Hetner is a Senior Executive, Board Director, and leader in cybersecurity recognized for raising the visibility of cyber risk to C-suites and corporate boards to help protect industries, infrastructures, and economies. A hallmark of his career has been identifying potential risks and initiating solutions that can be replicated across industries.

Hetner is the former Senior Cybersecurity Advisor to the Chair of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Head of Cybersecurity for the Office of Compliance Inspections and Examination at the SEC. He also represented the Chair of the SEC as a senior member of the U.S. Department of the Treasury Financial Banking Information Infrastructure Committee. His most significant contributions included creating the vision for and implementation of the first agency-wide cybersecurity governance structure, threat intelligence program, incident response capabilities and mechanisms that informed rule making, exam priorities and enforcement matters.

In addition, Hetner has led efforts across financial, regulatory, and government agencies to enhance cybersecurity coordination in the financial services sector. His thought leadership is widely sought across public and private sector organizations. Throughout his career, Hetner held several global leadership roles in the private sector that included Managing Director at Marsh, Wealth and Asset Management Cyber Practice Leader at EY, Chief Information Security Officer at GE Capital, and Senior Vice President at Citigroup. Hetner has shared his professional expertise by advising boards and mentoring students at Columbia University, New York University, Fordham School of Law, and Pace University.

Hetner is a Certified Information Security Manager (ISACA) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (ISC2). He earned a MS, cum laude, in Information Assurance from Norwich University and a BS in Security Management from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
