Allen Gelwick has more than 30 years of insurance experience and is part of a dynamic team at Lockton, where he works with clients to solve complex risk management problems.
He cofounded Lockton Houston, which is now one of the largest offices globally and the world’s largest independent insurance broker, on Feb. 28, 2001. Mr. Gelwick is passionate about understanding his clients so that he can deliver deep expertise to help and guide them to accomplish remarkable results.As a sponsor and director, Mr. Gelwick consolidated 23 physician practices into a publicly traded company in 1997 and negotiated and closed complex claims of up to 10 figures. He has an extensive background in structuring alternative risk insurance, such as performance technology coverage (for the benefit of lenders), warranty coverage, transaction liability, and credit wraps. Since 2004, he has focused on the expansion of power to include renewable and other advanced or new energy technologies.
Mr. Gelwick served on the Houston Symphony’s executive board for eight years, including during its 100th anniversary, and chaired the board for the Foundation for Arts, Culture & Education. He is a former advisor and sponsor for EWI, supporting its educational awards, and for the University of Houston’s annual Endowed Lecture Series in support of the late Dr. Rev. Richard Gelwick. He is a lifetime member of the Society for Values in Higher Education, a board member of Convergence Ventures and Lockton TX Series, and a board member and board advisor for the NACD Texas TriCities Chapter.
Specialties within his advisory include alternative risk finance, complex casualty placements, energy, supply chain and inventory risk management, environmental, construction, transportation, aviation, health care, retail, and wholesale risks.
Mr. Gelwick has sponsored three events at the Royal Institution on the convergence of biotech, computer science, and material science. He is also a speaker, presenter, writer, and interviewer for the Risk and Insurance Management Society, American Society Mechanical Engineers, Nature Nanotechnology, and NACD.
